While the City Council may have agreed to expand the local junkyard, others may not be on board with the decision, according to the local Fort Myers community.

However, the council stands firm by their decision to increase Garden Street Iron & Metal, with Mayor Randy Henderson backing them up stating that “I believe that our charge is to emerge out of the process that supports an improved city. I’m hoping this will be a launch pad to make the city more beautiful.”

The decision to expand the Fort Myers junkyard did not come without much debate and consideration, as the council carefully listened to the proposition which included over 10 hours of outlined plans regarding the site specifically, goals towards developing the area as well as why expanding the 18-acre site is a good idea for the rest of the community.

The council also took into account the potential negative side effects of enacting an expansion, but all in all the council voted 5-2 to expand Garden Street Iron & Metal. The thought process behind the decision is that, holding the site to higher standards will force other Fort Myers junkyards to either step up their game or to shut down. Local Fort Mye

While the City Council may have agreed to expand the local junkyard, others may not be on board with the decision, according to the local Fort Myers community.

rs automobile movers believe that the increased space will allow for the removal and disposal of junk cars left throughout city – the disposal of these cars is suggested to reduce vandalism and other malicious crimes.

Attorney Steve Hartsell argues that “you ought to be embracing this (expansion proposal), it will put (junkyards like Alligator Towing) out of business and set the standard for the rest of the city.” From the looks of the outcome of the debate from the city’s officials, the City Council agrees that this is a good thing as well.

The 5-acre nonprofit sanctuary in Fort Myers which rescues and houses primates who have been abused, the Talkin’ Monkeys Project, is facing a nuisance lawsuit that claims that the organization has violated Florida’s Sunshine Law by approving them.

Neighbors Mary and James Harrison complain that the noises from the monkeys cause “discomfort, distress and inconvenience” that will greatly drive down the valuation of their home. Another suit that was filed last year also states that the county approved the sanctuary without first taking a poll of the opinion of the rest of the community.

However, Deborah Misotti, director of the Talkin’ Monkeys Project, argues that, “county code enforcement and the sheriff’s department have done decibel checks of the noise levels of our primates and they were all within the acceptable range. They are confined to night houses at night and they sleep from dusk to dawn.”

Misotti goes on to further defend the sanctuary by arguing that, “we are an educational primate sanctuary. We are a service learning center for colleges and universities all over the world, as well as Florida schools. And we’re basically here as an educational facility. We do not breed. We rescue only.”

Students from Florida Gulf Coast University also volunteer and intern there as part of the school’s program.

Commission chair, Karson Turner, shows his support for the program by stating that “the community they’re located in is overwhelmingly proud of that facility and what it does…as a destination for students for around the world.”

The newest project on deck for downtown Fort Myers, involves adding changes to both their streets and neighborhoods, which is something that Fort Myers movers are looking forward to.

In an effort to bring new life to the downtown area, the Community Redevelopment Agency is working to create plans to redevelop Gardner’s Park – a historic 1920s neighborhood. One of the ways that they plan on updating the historic area, is by adding roundabouts to two intersections that are known to have an ongoing problem with becoming overly congested during rush hour. By creating a better flow of traffic, they hope increase the amount of residents who have access to the downtown area.

According to Don Paight, director of the Community Redevelopment Agency, “the idea is to encourage artists to come to the area for studio space and living space.” Residents of Gardner’s Park hope to transform the quaint area into an art village with everything from shops, art studios, and living space.

Further plans involve improving upon the landscaping in the area, adding a two-way bike lane, and building gateway arches throughout the park.

Owners of local businesses in the area are excited for the upcoming change, as Rob Johnson, owner of the Butterfly Estates on Fowler Street, says that “I’m excited for all of the shop owners. The local business owners came together to push the agenda.”

However, the plan will most likely take at least seven months before the proposal will be accepted and actually be able to come to fruition. Once the plan is adopted, the city will finally be able to move ahead with the changes.

Naples movers want you to know that if you are looking to move to the Southwest region of Florida, Naples real estate is hot and selling fast! Nationally, the economy is doing well, and it can be shown through the rise in real estate. Florida is a prime location for real estate and low mortgage rates right now, but Naples real estate is sizzling!

The 2015 Annual Naples Area Board of Realtors (NABOR) Economic Summit was held at the Naples Grande Beach Resort earlier this month; where the committee reviews the state of the local housing market and how it is impacted by global, state, and regional influences. Over 400 were in attendance this year and, according to Vice President and Manager of the residential division of Naples-based Carroll and Carroll Real Estate Appraisers and Consultants Cindy Carroll, the summit revealed a stabilization of the real estate market across the board in Naples; even surpassing peak 2005 levels.

“Neighborhoods broken down by ZIP codes seem to make a lot more sense than when it’s broken down by price range,” she said. “It’s about location, not price range, it’s how close you are to the beach, which drives your value.”

Carrolls further went on to mention that condos have not had as much of a jump as single-family homes.

John Tuccillo, the chief economist at Florida Realtors and the former chief economist at the National Association of Realtors explained that, “There is a very close correlation, between million-dollar-plus home sales in Florida and the Dow (Dow Jones Industrial Average), so it’s kind of an indicator or where home sales are going to do. In addition, transportation and infrastructure investments in Southwest Florida could help spur economic development, leading to a stronger local economy and higher home sale prices”, Tuccillo said.

So if your family is looking to move to Naples, now is the perfect time to do so, and jump on the houses quick because they are selling exceptionally fast!

If you are moving to Fort Myers, Fort Myers movers want new residents to beware of which beach chairs you sit on! Yes, you heard that right. Apparently, some of the beach chairs are free for the public to use, while others are owned by vendors who expect you to pay to use their lounge chairs. Since when did laying on the beach have to cost you money? Well, that is exactly what Fort Myers residents are arguing about.

As of right now, the rules for beach chair vendors are vague, but due to the rising issue of residents being kicked off of chairs and being told to move, the city is facing the challenge of having to draw a line in the sand – pun intended. Moreover, owners of the beach chairs are concerned about the new regulations.

Owner of The Jungle, Chris Schaab, has 90 chairs which he rents for $5 a day. He explains how he is concerned that if the city implements too much regulation, he will lose money. He also says that the beach chairs are necessary for people in the area.

“Everyone deserves a front row view whether they are bringing their own chair or renting from someone in the neighborhood,” said Schaab.

However, although Schaab may be genuine with his beach chair rentals, other vendors are telling visitors to leave their part of the beach, not just their chairs, if they refuse to rent from them. The problem with this – the vendors do not own any section of the beach.

As a parent, you make sacrifices for your children. One commonly made sacrifice is picking up and moving just so that your child can attend a better school, to ensure a brighter future.

However, before you move, All My Sons Moving & Storage moving professionals want you to take a step back and look at this move from every angle before packing up and moving. Although you may be making sure that your child receives a better education, you also need to consider the entire family and whether moving is a good decision for everyone.

A few questions to ask yourself are:

  1. Is Moving the Best Decision for Your Child?
  2. Is the School of Choice Worthy of a Move?
  3. Will the School Even Take Your Child?
  4. Will You be Able to Make it Financially?

Finding a better school and moving is easier said than done. Researching the perfect school alone, is a long and important process. As well as making sure that the school of choice is not looking to rezone in the near future. A school’s rezoning could land you right back where you started.

On the other hand, moving may seem like a great idea for you, but not for your child. If a child does not fit in or feel comfortable in their new school, it can have a negative effect on their learning capabilities. If it comes to a point where you feel that moving your family for the sake of your child’s education and future, All My Sons Moving & Storage of Fort Myers is here to assist you!

Fort Myers’ schools do not only offer a brighter future, but many bright and sunny days as well. Moving to Fort Myers is the answer to all four questions above. Fort Myers schools are a great decision for your child, residents are friendly and welcoming, school acceptance is straight forward, and best of all, Florida’s cost of living is manageable!
